CrimeaSOS: conscription notices are issued at the exits of mosques in Crimea

30 / 08 / 2023

CrimeaSOS has learned that in some cities of the temporarily occupied Crimea, representatives of military commissars issue conscription notices at the exits of mosques. This happens on Friday, when many Muslims visit mosques for prayer.

Conscription notices are issued after the prayer, and men are asked to sign upon their receipt. Several cases were recorded when people were forced to accept conscription notices. The last such case was recorded on August 25, when the “papers” were signed by several local men.

We shall remind you that on September 21, 2022, the occupiers announced the so-called “partial mobilization” on the occupied Crimean peninsula. Despite official statements about its completion, conscription notices continued to be distributed to residents of Crimea, but in a hidden format.

In total, during the years of occupation of Crimea, the russian federation has already illegally conducted 16 conscription campaigns in Crimea despite the fact that the conscription of residents of the occupied territories into the ranks of the occupying army is prohibited by Art. 51 of the IV Geneva Convention and is a war crime. Forcing citizens of Ukraine to participate in hostilities against their own state is a separate war crime.

If you need to discuss issues connected with leaving the territory of occupied Crimea, you may contact the experts of the CrimeaSOS “legal hotline” at the numbers +380962240123 (for calls within Ukraine and the world) and +380952775355 (in Viber, Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp). They work from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays, the numbers can be used to send messages in messengers.
