CrimeaSOS: the total term of sentences for Crimean political prisoners for the year of the full-scale war is almost 700 years

699 years and 9 months was the total term of imprisonment for victims of politically motivated persecution in Crimea during the year of the full-scale invasion. CrimeaSOS analyst Yevhenii Yaroshenko said this during the press conference “On the way to justice: a year of war through the prism of human rights activities”.

“During the year of the full-scale war, at least 57 people received guilty verdicts with a total term of imprisonment of 699 years and 9 months”, – said Yevhenii Yaroshenko.

Ignoring the war crimes of the russian occupiers led to a worsening of the human rights situation in the occupied Crimea. The lack of reaction of the international community to the occupation of Crimea and the subsequent crimes of the occupiers made it easier for russia to turn the peninsula into a bridgehead for the invasion of mainland Ukraine a year ago.

“The insufficient response of the international community to what russia did in Crimea and Donbas in 2014 created a favourable environment for the full-scale invasion a year ago and the new atrocities that took place in Mariupol, Bucha, Izium and other cities and villages of Ukraine. Atrocities will most likely continue as long as russian troops are on the territory of Ukraine”, —the analyst added.

On February 24, 2023, a press conference of the “Ukraine 5AM” Coalition – “On the way to justice: a year of war through the prism of human rights activities” took place. You may watch the recording of the meeting following the link.
