Ukrainian athletes are asking for the release of the master of sports in orienteering Kyrylo Barannyk, unjustly imprisoned in Crimea, and for an end to his torture.

The post calling for #FreeKyryloBarannyk was shared by members of the National Orienteering Team of Ukraine: Feia Tsyvilska, Olena Babych and Mykyta Zviahin. Ukrainian athlete Oleh Rozhko also published a statement calling for an end to torture and the release of Barannyk in the specialized orienteering community on Facebook

From July 11 to 16, the World Orienteering Championship took place in Flims, Switzerland. Master of sports Kyrylo Barannyk could support athletes, follow competitions, perhaps participate in them.

However, on May 30, 2023, employees of the FSB of the russian federation actually abducted Kyrylo Barannyk in the middle of the day in Simferopol, the capital of the occupied Crimea. He was accused of mining the railway tracks in the Bakhchysarai area on February 23, 2023. Since then, he has been tortured in the cells of pre-trial detention centre #2 in the city of Simferopol.

Torture is an international crime. Persons involved in the torture of Barannyk shall be brought to justice in the International Criminal Court.
