CrimeaSOS: the ECtHR has taken into consideration the appeal regarding the abduction of Oleksii Kyseliov
14 / 09 / 2023The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) accepted for consideration the appeal regarding the abduction by the russians of the former commander of the Ukrainian reconnaissance ship “Slavutych” Oleksii Kyseliov. It happened in Henichesk at the beginning of the occupation of the Kherson region.
“The case of Oleksii Kyseliov is the first of all known cases demonstrating the persecution by the russian authorities of residents of Crimea who left the occupied territory after 2014 and self-organized for active resistance to the occupiers. The case of Kyseliov contains all the elements of enforced disappearance”, – lawyer Serhii Zaiets explains.
CrimeaSOS filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights on November 28, 2022.
“Currently, the following violations have been recorded: torture, illegal deprivation of liberty, illegal search and theft of property (car). Probably, it will be possible to talk about the violation of the right to a fair trial in the future”, —the lawyer added.
The occupiers abducted Oleksii Kyseliov on July 22, 2022, in the city of Henichesk, Kherson region, and took him to Crimea. He is accused of alleged involvement in the Crimean Tatar Noman Çelebicihan Battalion. In an attempt to obtain a confession, russian “law enforcement officers” tortured Kyseliov with electric current and beat him.
Kyseliov is currently being held in the pre-trial detention centre of the city of Simferopol. In October 2022, he announced a hunger strike. The reason was the lack of medical care, which was not provided to the man for two months.
