2 / 03 / 2023

CrimeaSOS will provide available information on victims of politically motivated persecution to the National Information Bureau (NIB) under the Ministry of Reintegration to update civilian hostage registers. This was announced by the Head of the Board of CrimeaSOS Oleksii Tilnenko.

“CrimeaSOS will provide data for the register of civilians who ended up in russian captivity as a result of the occupation of the territories of Ukraine within the scope of work of the NIB under the Ministry of Reintegration. All the collected data on victims of politically motivated persecution in Crimea will help to update the relevant register, which will contribute to the creation of a full-fledged system of social protection and support for relatives of the missing persons”, — said Oleksii Tilnenko.

The unified register of persons deprived of personal freedom as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine has not yet been implemented in Ukraine. It concerns both prisoners of war and civilians illegally detained by the russian federation.

According to CrimeaSOS at the beginning of 2023, at least 600 civilians have become victims of enforced disappearances in the Kherson region alone since the beginning of the occupation of part of the region. The number of civilian prisoners in Crimea and other occupied territories of Ukraine is currently not known.

According to CrimeaSOS lawyer Anastasiia Kalinina, it is currently impossible to provide adequate legal protection and assistance to civilian and military hostages, as well as their families. In order to ensure the protection, it is necessary to adopt a number of provisions by the Government of Ukraine. Cases of abduction of civilians and capture of military personnel can be reported to the relevant CrimeaSOS “hotline” at the numbers: +38 097 327 69 56 and +38 095 931 00 65. Applications can be made in WhatsApp and Signal messengers. Specialists provide consultations by phone from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
