CrimeaSOS: at least 575 residents of the Kherson region became victims of enforced abductions

At least 575 residents of the Kherson region became victims of enforced abductions in 2022. Oleksii Tilnenko, Head of the Board of CrimeaSOS, reported this in a comment to Suspilne News.

“Some of these people are taken from Crimea to the territory of russia. Prisoners are tortured and provided with no medical care”, — said Oleksii Tilnenko.

Unlike the exchange of prisoners of war, the mechanism for the release of victims of enforced disappearances among the civilian population has not been formed. The laws and customs of war do not allow the capture of civilians, so Ukrainian civilian prisoners are held by the russians as hostages.

“They are kept without communicating neither with their relatives, nor with any state bodies. When relatives try to find out the condition of the detainee and what he/she is accused of, through lawyers, they very often cannot get answers to these questions. russia hides the fact that these people are in the territory of either Crimea or russia”, — added Oleksii Tilnenko.

Cases of abduction of civilians and capture of military personnel can be reported to the CrimeaSOS “hotline” at the numbers: +38 097 327 69 56 and +38 095 931 00 65. The specialists provide consultations by phone from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, communication may take place through WhatsApp and Signal messengers.
