CrimeaSOS: russia admitted the detention of the Spanish volunteer Mario

The russian invaders admitted that they were holding the Spanish volunteer Mariano García Calatayud, also known as Mario. Oleksii Tilnenko, head of the Board of CrimeaSOS, reported the following.

“The russian military prosecutor’s office admitted the detention of the Spanish volunteer Mario by the FSB of the russian federation. The reason was allegedly his “involvement in actions aimed at harming the security of russia”. This became known from a response letter from the “military prosecutor’s office of the Black Sea Fleet of the russian federation”, — said Oleksii Tilnenko.

The letter states:

“In order to verify information about involvement in the commission of actions aimed at causing harm to the security of the russian federation during the “special military operation”, Spanish citizen García Calatayud Mariano was placed by officials of the FSB of russia in the “Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol” in accordance with the established procedure of the penitentiary system, where he is still located, verification measures against him have been completed”.

Mariano García Calatayud is a Spanish citizen who has been living in Ukraine for more than eight years and is engaged in volunteer activities. On March 19, 2022, the man went to a protest for the Unity of Ukraine in the temporarily occupied Kherson, after which he disappeared. In October 2022, CrimeaSOS became aware that Mario was in the Simferopol pre-trial detention centre.

According to Oleksii Tilnenko, russians in the Kherson region abduct specific categories of people, including volunteers.
