Crimes of the russian federation in the newly occupied territories take place under the same scenario as in Crimea
14 / 02 / 2024The criminal actions of the russian federation in the newly occupied territories repeat the policy that russia implemented in the occupied Crimea, but are of a more arbitrary nature. This was stated by the head of the Board of CrimeaSOS Oleksii Tilnenko during an interview on the “Vchasno” media platform.
“In Crimea, there is at least some semblance of state administration and the illusion of a legal system. This is not the case in the newly occupied territories,” says the head of CrimeaSOS.
The reason for this trend is that Crimea has been occupied for much longer — almost 10 years. Thus, “authorities” on the peninsula are trying to pretend that “justice” is administered at least according to some rules.
The trends in the occupied parts of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions are the same as in the Crimea. In both regions, the occupiers fabricate cases against Ukrainians. As in Crimea, there are cases of abductions there.
Crimea often becomes a place for keeping people from the newly occupied territories. “In most cases, people abducted from the Kherson region do not have legal status. The same can be said about the Spanish volunteer Mario García Calatayud. There is still no procedural status. Fabrication of the case is in progress”, — said Oleksii. According to the latest information, Mario is in Crimea after being abducted from a pro-Ukrainian rally in Kherson.
When the russian side confirms that it has detained a person, he/she acquires the status of a civilian hostage. There are cases when the occupiers fabricate cases against civilian hostages. People become victims of politically motivated persecution — they are sentenced to long terms. They are often escorted to remote regions of russia. This is done in order to make it difficult for relatives, loved ones, and, importantly, the lawyer to get there.

We shall remind that at least 644 citizens of Ukraine became victims of enforced disappearances in the Kherson region. Most often, the occupiers abduct former or active soldiers, representatives of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and special services.
