CrimeaSOS: The Unified Register of Missing Persons will contribute to ensuring the protection of the rights of their families
2 / 05 / 2023The Unified Register of Missing Persons, which became operational in Ukraine on May 2, will contribute to ensuring an effective system of social and legal protection for the families of such persons. CrimeaSOS lawyer Anastasiia Kalinina reported the following.
“With the start of the work of the Unified Register, relatives of missing persons will be able to receive adequate protection and assistance from the state. The work of the Register ensures the appropriate implementation of the relevant law, according to which the relatives of the missing persons have the right to social protection, as well as receiving all information regarding the circumstances of the disappearance and the progress of the investigation”, — says Anastasiia Kalinina.
The Register will include the following data about missing persons: full name, place and date of birth, marital status, circumstances and time of disappearance, features of the missing. In addition, information will be entered on the presence or absence of a court decision to recognize missing persons as missing or declaring them dead, as well as other data that will contribute to the search for a person.
Relatives of the missing person will be able to receive an extract confirming the status of the missing person one month after entering the information into the Register. The extract will allow relatives to apply to the Pension Fund and receive payments due to the loss of a breadwinner by disabled family members.
In addition, according to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, family members of missing military personnel can receive financial assistance in the amount of the official salary at the last place of service of the person. Thus, a person needs to write a respective statement addressed to the commander (chief, head) of the military unit (institution, organization).
First data on missing persons were entered into the Unified Register on May 2, 2023. The development of this Register took place with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the Commissioner for Missing Persons and other departments.
