CrimeaSOS took part in meetings during the summit of the Crimea Platform
30 / 10 / 2023On October 24, 2023, the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform started in Prague. During the event, representatives of human rights organizations, in particular the co-coordinator of CrimeaSOS Sabina Iliasova, had the opportunity to meet with Czech diplomats and representatives of the government, the Senate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
At the meetings, human rights defenders drew the attention of representatives of state institutions to the deterioration of the human rights situation in occupied Crimea after the start of the full-scale invasion. Every day, citizens of Ukraine on the peninsula are subjected to oppression and persecution; criminal and administrative cases are opened against them for disloyalty to the occupation regime.
In addition, Ukrainian human rights defenders told the international community about the persecution of Crimean lawyers who were under increasing pressure from the occupying administration of the peninsula.
Senators, members of Parliament and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic were also presented with a list of persons involved in crimes in the temporarily occupied Crimea, in particular, judges who pronounced sentences and systematically persecuted the inhabitants of the peninsula. Personal sanctions should be applied to all of them.
“Czech senators and deputies expressed their readiness to continue supporting Ukraine, in particular to pursue a sanctions policy in accordance with the recently adopted law, and to replenish sanctions lists with persons involved in crimes in occupied Crimea”, —Sabina Iliasova said.
This year, 69 parliamentary delegations from around the world took part in the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform. The parliamentary dimension aims at raising awareness among world leaders and the general public about the russian occupation of Crimea, human rights violations, the security situation in the Black Sea region, global food security and the rules-based world order.
