Due to activities that “threaten the security and constitutional system of the russian federation”, the prosecutor general’s office of russia recognized CrimeaSOS an “undesirable” organization. Oleksii Tilnenko, Head of the Board of CrimeaSOS, told about this.

“Today, we learned from media sources that the prosecutor general’s office of the russian federation recognized CrimeaSOS an “undesirable” organization. For nine years of activities aimed at protecting human rights in the occupied Crimea, we suspected that sooner or later this could happen. This decision was, rather, a matter of time”, — said Oleksii Tilnenko.

For nine years, CrimeaSOS has been covering the situation of human rights violations and russian crimes in the occupied Crimea, providing humanitarian, legal and psychological assistance to internally displaced persons, engaging in advocacy projects in Ukraine and abroad.

According to information on the website of the prosecutor general’s office of the russian federation, the organization’s activities “threaten the constitutional order and security of the russian federation … the declared goals of the organization’s activities — “deoccupation and reintegration” of Crimea, ensuring its return to Ukraine — are aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the russian federation”.

“The status of an “undesirable” organization in no way affects the activities of CrimeaSOS in Ukraine and other civilized countries of the world. At the same time, we ask our readers and friends who remain in the occupied territories to pay attention to this, so as not to become new victims of repression and human rights violations by russia”, — adds Oleksii Tilnenko.

According to russian legislation, the “undesirable” organizations are those foreign or international NGOs whose activities pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional system of the russian federation, the country’s defence capability or security. Persons who cooperate with or distribute information of “undesirable” organizations may be held administratively or criminally liable. The list of such organizations includes, in particular, NGOs “International Partnership for Human Rights” and “Crimean Human Rights Group”.
