CrimeaSOS: the russian military may persecute Internet service providers in the Kherson Oblast
3 / 05 / 2022Owners of local ISPs in the Kherson region may be abducted by the russian military or coerced to cooperate in any other way. It was reported by the Head of the Board of CrimeaSOS Denys Savchenko.
“The facts of connecting local providers to russian Internet highways are already known. We do not know whether this happened with the goodwill of the leader or as a result of coercion by the russian armed forces. However, this situation may and most likely will open a “Pandora’s box” for small local ISPs. Managers and owners of such companies are at significant risk. They may be abducted and forced to cooperate in any other way,” commented Denys Savchenko, Head of the Board of CrimeaSOS.
On April 30, both mobile communications and broadband Internet access practically disappeared in Kherson. Until that, subscribers in russian-occupied territories have had access to the network through backup channels.
On May 1, the Internet reappeared in one of the local Skynet providers in Kherson. According to the Twitter account of the global Internet monitor @netblocks, the provider’s traffic goes through russia.
