Lack of proper medical care in places of deprivation of liberty led to the death of two Crimean political prisoners and poses a mortal threat to others. This was reported by CrimeaSOS analyst Yevhenii Yaroshenko.

“Conditions of detention and failure to provide proper medical care in places of deprivation of liberty are deadly for Ukrainian prisoners of the Kremlin. This week, two Crimean political prisoners died in penitentiaries in russia due to lack of medical care and neglect of their health problems. Dozens more victims of politically motivated persecution who have health problems also complained about the complete non-provision of medical care, which leads to irreparable damage to their health”, — said Yevhenii Yaroshenko.

Political prisoner Kostiantyn Shyring died on February 7 due to the lack of medical care in a colony in the Orenburg region, and on February 10 Dzhemil Hafarov died in the Novocherkassk pre-trial detention centre. Both had health problems and did not receive medical care in russian prisons. At the time of arrest, Hafarov had the 3rd group of disabilities, and during his stay in the pretrial detention centre he received the 2nd group of disabilities.

“All those involved in severe violations of human rights in places of deprivation of liberty should be held criminally liable for cruel and inhumane treatment of illegally imprisoned citizens of Ukraine” — Yevhenii Yaroshenko added.

Previously, other victims of politically motivated persecution in Crimea reported on the lack of medical care in places of detention. Former officer of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksii Kyseliov who was detained by the occupiers in the Kherson region, went on hunger strike for two months due to the lack of medical care. The health condition of citizen journalist and nurse Iryna Danylovych also deteriorated. She almost lost her hearing due to the lack of medical care in the pre-trial detention centre.
