In a comment for “Suspilne Crimea”, CrimeaSOS analyst Yevhenii Yaroshenko named the most common articles that the occupiers use against the inhabitants of the peninsula to restrict freedom of expression.
“Every year, new articles appear in the russian federation, according to which the occupiers restrict freedom of expression in Crimea. There are several such common articles. The most famous are “discrediting the russian army”, “demonstrating prohibited symbols”, “contempt for russian state symbols” and “abuse of freedom of mass media”, – Yevhenii Yaroshenko noted.
In addition, the inhabitants of the peninsula began to be persecuted for “childfree propaganda.” The russian president signed a bill banning propaganda of refusal to have children on November 23, 2024. The other day, the occupation court passed the first verdict in the relevant case. Thus, a 29-year-old resident of Sevastopol was fined RUB 50,000 for posts on social media about refusing to have children in favour of a “safe lifestyle.”
“Most likely, prosecution for a post on a social network violates the right to freedom of expression, since the exercise of this right may be restricted only on the basis of law if it is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, territorial integrity, public safety, riot prevention, protection of health, morals, reputation or rights of others, to prevent the disclosure of confidential information, or to maintain the authority and impartiality of the judiciary”, – the analyst added.
We previously reported that the occupation courts of Crimea issued at least 818 resolutions for anti-war statements.
