CrimeaSOS: every year, the persecution of women in Crimea becomes more and more serious

15 / 07 / 2025

According to CrimeaSOS, in recent years there has been a trend towards an increase in cases of persecution of women in Crimea. Moreover, these persecutions are becoming increasingly serious. Particularly serious crimes as “terrorism” and “treason” are being incriminated, and the punishment can be life imprisonment.

On July 14, information appeared about 24-year-old Khatizhe Buiukchan, who, according to the NGO “Crimean Tatar Resource Center”, was abducted by russian special services on May 6, 2025.

Khatizhe’s whereabouts were unknown for over two months.  During this time, the occupiers resorted to a typical practice, publishing a video where, most likely under duress, the woman talked about cooperation with Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.

Khatizhe allegedly tried to blow up russian soldier in his car.

According to the occupiers, a criminal case has been opened against her for terrorism and high treason.

Let us remind you that every year dozens of people go missing in Crimea, and more and more of them are women. Read more about the enforced disappearances of women in Crimea in the CrimeaSOS article.
