In order to implement the law on political prisoners, the Government of Ukraine must adopt a number of provisions. CrimeaSOS lawyer Anastasia Kalinina said this during the round table of the Office of the Ombudsman.

“The provision of civilian and military hostages, as well as their relatives, with medical and rehabilitation assistance, sanatorium-resort treatment is conditioned by the full implementation of the law on political prisoners. Thus, the government of Ukraine needs to adopt a number of regulations”, — Anastasia Kalinina said during the event.

Despite the fact that the Law of Ukraine “On Social and Legal Protection of Persons Deprived of Personal Freedom as a Result of Armed Aggression Against Ukraine and Their Family Members” was adopted in January of last year, it is still not working. Therefore, it is impossible to provide adequate legal protection and assistance to civilian and military hostages, as well as their families.

On February 27, a round table was held for the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. It was organized by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The event provided for the discussion on the prerequisites and course of events during the Day of Resistance on February 26, 2014, the consequences of the russian occupation over the past 9 years, as well as the possibilities of reintegration of the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula.
