CrimeaSOS: Russian passportization of residents in Southern Ukraine make them hostages of coscription
25 / 05 / 2022Russian passports given to residents of the temporarily occupied territories on the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions turn them into hostages and aim to enforce participation in military actions against Ukraine – reported Ievgenii Iaroshenko, analyst of NGO CrimeaSOS.
After receiving a Russian passport, person is considered a subject to military service. The Russian Federation can recruit this person and involve him into military actions against Ukraine in future. Thus, residents of the newly temporarily occupied territories become hostages of Russian military conscription, the CrimeaSOS analyst Ievgenii Iaroshenko explained.
Putin signed a decree on 25.05.2022 on „simplified admission“ into Russian citizenship of residents of Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. It was done through amendments to the Russian president’s decree of 24.04.2019 on simplified procedure of granting Russian citizenship to the residents of temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The amended decree expands the range of persons who can „obtain“ a Russian passport.
