CrimeaSOS recorded that occupation courts considered cases of “discrediting the russian army” in Crimea at least 284 times. CrimeaSOS analyst Yevhenii Yaroshenko told us about it.

“Since March 2022, administrative cases of “discrediting the russian army” in Crimea have been considered by occupation courts at least 284 times. 233 times they issued resolutions on bringing 224 persons to administrative liability. Most often — for publications in social networks that contradict the position of the Kremlin”, — said Yevhenii Yaroshenko.

Most “offenders” were fined in the amount of 30,000 rubles, which is approximately UAH 14,547.

We shall remind you that on March 4, 2022, the russian parliament adopted amendments to the legislation that provide for administrative and criminal liability for “discrediting the armed forces of the russian federation”.

Last week, the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, signed the law on liability for “discrediting participants in the war against Ukraine”. From now on, administrative or criminal liability can be imposed for disapproving statements about the so-called “volunteers”, i.e. members of the illegal armed formation “Wagner” PMC.

Such laws allow prosecution for any inconvenient speech, action or dissemination of information that differs from the Kremlin’s official position. According to the authorities of the russian federation, the main reasons for their adoption are “the protection of the interests of the russian federation and its citizens, support of international peace and security”.
