CrimeaSOS: “nationalization” of property rights is a tool for pressure on disloyal residents of Crimea

Nationalization of property rights is one of the tools of pressure on disloyal residents of the occupied Crimea. This was reported by CrimeaSOS advocacy expert Artem Oliinyk.
“Nationalization of property allows providing material benefits for loyal population groups and immigrants from russia, while increasing pressure on residents of Crimea who disagree with the russian federation’s policies. Such actions are part of russia’s broader policy aimed at implementing the project of “national greatness” in Crimea, and the russian federation solves the accumulated socio-political problems at the expense of the rights of Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, and religious communities”, – Artem Oliinyk noted.
In total, the occupation administration “nationalized” about 3.5 thousand property objects in 2022-2024, of which 1.2 thousand in 2024. The budget of the occupation administration received RUB 4.8 billion from the “nationalization” of property owned by Ukrainian owners.
In addition, at least 2,548 land plots were transferred for use by russian military personnel. In August 2024, the occupiers allowed war participants to receive land plots in Crimea, regardless of their place of residence and registration.
Such “nationalization” violates the right to peaceful possession of property. And under russian occupation, the destruction or seizure of property of Ukrainian citizens, except in cases where such destruction or seizure is a military necessity, constitutes a war crime.
Let us remind you that another legislative tool that the occupiers use to suppress independent journalists and even the smallest manifestations of freedom of speech in Crimea is Article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the russian federation, which provides for liability for abuse of freedom of mass information.
