CrimeaSOS: almost 90% of victims of enforced disappearances are held without charges
20 / 03 / 2023The absolute majority of victims of enforced disappearances, almost 90%, are held by the occupiers without charges. Oleksii Tilnenko, the Head of the Board of CrimeaSOS, talked about this in a comment to Suspilne Crimea.
“Most of them [victims of enforced disappearances — ed.], almost 90% are held without any charges or procedural status. They are not provided with any legal assistance… These are civilian hostages and, accordingly, there is no information on where exactly they are officially held”, — said Oleksii Tilnenko.
Among the abducted are the Spanish volunteer Mariano García Calatayud, the mayor of Hola Prystan Oleksandr Babych, and the activist Iryna Horobtsova.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, at least 644 people have become victims of enforced disappearances in the Kherson region. The occupiers in the Kherson region abduct specific categories of persons.
Mostly, these are people who can influence local opinion, former or current military personnel, employees of law enforcement agencies and special services.
