"Mustafa" is a first documentary about Mustafa Dzhemilev. Its goal is to tell public the life story of Ukrainian politician and public figure, who personifies the fight for the survival, dignity and honor of Crimean Tatars.

People who work on the "Mustafa" project:

  • Ahmed Saryhalil, director;
  • Tamilа Tashevа, producer;
  • Fima Chupakin, Ukrainian composer, pianist, sound producer;
  • Vakhtang Kipiani, Ukrainian journalist, essayist and historian;
  • Maxim Pasichnyk, the protagonist of the film, playing the role of Mustafa Dzhemilev.

Premiere of the film took place on October 28, 2016 in the program "Ukrainian premieres" of the Kiev International Film Festival "Molodist". Soon the film will be presented at the Sundance Film Festival in America and a number of other festivals of documentary films. In the future we plan a massive distribution of the documentary film "Mustafa" in Ukraine and Europe. On November 13 the charity screening of film was held in in capital's cinema "Zhovten": the collected money was provided to political prisoners families.

The work on the film began in February 2015 and lasted for half a year. The film lets you experience the atmosphere of those times: together with Mustafa Dzhemilev you will visit a prison, have a chat with like-minded people in the struggle for the return of the Crimea in Soviet times and in the present time, feel yourself as an activist of the national movement of Crimean Tatars, as well as dive into the history of the life of Mustafa.

Funds for the project were raised on the "Spilnokosht" platform during the period from February to March 2015. The action was supported by 252 benefactors, who have donated 156 780 UAH. The basis of the budget was the filming in the number of countries (Ukraine, Russia, France, Great Britain, Lithuania, Poland, the USA, Turkey, Czech Republic, Japan). In the framework of film preparation the project team communicated with a lot of Soviet dissidents, who were forced to leave the territory of Ukraine.
