Diplomatic missions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine can not get permission from Russia to meet with the convicted in Russia Ukrainians Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko already more than three months. The Department of Consular Service of the MFA of Ukraine informs.
"The embassy and consular offices of Ukraine in Russia are waiting for a long time (2-3 months) to receive from the Russian competent authorities of more than 20 permits for a meeting with our compatriots. In particular, the Russian side still did not give permission to visit the citizens of Ukraine Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko who are unlawfully convicted on trumped-up charges", — the Department writes on its Facebook page.
The department says they do not receive a reply from the competent authorities of the Russian Federation, despite numerous appeals of Ukrainian diplomatic and consular institutions of Ukraine.
The department calls such actions of the Russian side a flagrant violation of the Consular Convention between Ukraine and Russia, which provides for the right for consular Ukrainian officials to visit their citizens in places of their detention in custody in Russia.
In August 2015 the North Caucasus Military District Court of Russia sentenced Oleg Sentsov to 20 years imprisonment on charges of planning terrorist attacks in annexed by Russia Crimea. Another person involved in the case Oleksandr Kolchenko got 10 years in strict-regime prison.
