Russia blocked Ukrainian draft of UN Security Council statement for media concerning Crimea, "Ukrinform" reports.
Russia was the only member state of the Security Council, which expressed its disagreement with the statement for media about Crimea, which Ukrainian delegation prepared.
The process of adoption of the document took place by the so-called procedure of "silence procedure" when the country-initiator sends draft statement for media to the rest of members of the UN Security Council, and if no one raises no objections until certain time, the document shall be deemed adopted.
"The Russian delegation raised their objections just a few minutes before the end of the term," – interlocutor told the agency.
Ukrinform managed to obtain the text of the draft statement:
"Members of the Security Council expressed deep concern over the decision of the President of the Russian Federation dated 28 July 2016, aimed at the inclusion of temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city Sevastopol to the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation.
They recalled the relevant regulations of the United Nations Charter, the Security Council presidential statement S / 26118 of 20 July 1993 and Resolution 68/262 of the United Nations General Assembly on 27 March 2014 with regards to the "Territorial integrity of Ukraine", and confirmed the full respect of the sovereignty, independence and Ukrainian territorial integrity.
We also know that other countries did not raise objections, and the US delegation has publicly supported the draft document.
Let’s remind, yesterday, on July 28th, Putin abolished the so-called "Crimean Federal District" and included the territory of annexed Crimea into the Southern Federal District of Russia.
