Russia to create duty-free zone in Crimea

Ministry of Economy is planning to make amendments to the law about Crimean free economic zone.

Russian Ministry of Economy has prepared a bill that will clarify the rules of free economic zone in Crimea that was established on January 1, 2015, reports Kommersant.

Specifically it is planning to amend article 18 of the law “On Development of the Crimean Federal District and the Free Economic Zone on the Territory of the Republic of Crimea and the City of Federal Importance Sevastopol” that creates a free customs zone there.

If the amendments are passed, residents of Crimea will be able to import good for processing without paying duties, but it will be prohibited to transport the goods imported to other regions of Russia.

According to KrymMedia, as of October 1 Russian government of Crimea has signed 157 contracts about working in the free economic zone with Crimean companies.
