Public prosecutor's office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea conducts pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings on genocide of Crimean Tatar people and other ethnic groups from the former territory of Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1944.
"The investigation revealed that during May and July 1944 more than 225 thousands Crimean Tatars and people of other ethnic groups were forcibly evicted from the territory of Crimean Autonomous Republic for living in unsuitable areas of the Uzbek SSR, the Kazakh SSR, Bashkiria and other regions of the Russian SFSR by order of former heads of state power of the USSR authorities", — website of Public prosecutor's office of ARC says.
Material of the case are entered in Unified Register of pre-trial investigations on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part. 1, Art. 442 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (genocide). The sanction of the previously mentioned article provides for custodial sentence for a term of ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
