Parliament supported idea of creating Crimean Tatar autonomy

Supported by Verkhovna Rada recommendations include deprivation of special status of Sevastopol city.

Verkhovna Rada deputies voted for the recommendations resulting from the parliamentary hearings "Strategy for the Reintegration to Ukraine temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol", according to QHA.

According to the recommendations, the president was recommended to prepare amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, as well as to convey Parliament's decision recognition of the Crimean Tatars, the Karaites, Krymchaks as indigenous peoples of Crimea.

It was also proposed to optimize the administrative and territorial unit of Crimea. MPs offered to deprive the city of Sevastopol a special status, which it has to date, and to change the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in Crimean Tatars Autonomous Republic.

In addition, participants of the parliamentary hearings have suggested to adopt a law on the state strategy of de-occupation and reintegration of Crimea, on collaborators and lustration on the peninsula, as well as providing property rights on the temporarily occupied territory.

It is also recommended the assistance to the Ministry on the temporarily occupied territories and IDPs in preventing that persons who are recognized collaborators were not able to hold any public office after the de-occupation of Crimea.

Cabinet of Ministers is also recommended to create together with international partners human rights and charity organizations for the protection of rights of Ukrainian citizens in the temporarily occupied territory.
