Naftogaz filed suit against Russia because of Crimean assets

Preliminary amount of damages is $2,6 billion.


National JSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" initiated arbitration proceedings against the Russian Federation and requires compensate for the damage inflicted by the illegal capture of the group's assets in the Crimea. This was reported by the press service of "Naftogaz".

"Naftogaz" pre-estimated its damage at $ 2.6 billion. Besides of National JSC,  PJSC "SJC" Chornomornaftogaz ", PJSC" Ukrtransgaz, subsidiary company "Likvo", PJSC" Ukrgazvidobuvannya ", PJSC" Ukrtransnafta" and subsidiiary company "Gas of Ukraine" filed suit.

"Naftogaz" has accused the Russians of violating Russian-Ukrainian bilateral investment agreement — an agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on promotion and mutual protection of investments. The company reminded that during the occupation of the peninsula in 2014, the Russians seized the property of the Ukrainian companies without compensation.

Earlier it was reported that "Naftogaz" lost in the Crimea and on its shelf 15 oil and gas fields, 3 prospective areas of oil and gas, Glebovskoe underground gas storage facility, more than 1,200 kilometers of main gas pipelines, 43 gas distribution stations, 29 craft units, 4 mobile offshore drilling units, among which there were two modern high-tech ones – "Peter Godovanets" and "Independence" as well as many other objects of industrial infrastructure.
