The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine voiced it’s protest in connection with the "decision" of the Russian Prosecutor's Office in the occupied Crimea to suspend the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
"This decision is a further step in the chain of crimes of the Russian occupation authorities against the representatives of the Crimean Tatar people, the indigenous people of Crimea. We consider this a violation of the Russian Federation's obligations under international law as an occupying state, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination ", – it is said in a statement.
Also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that "the Kremlin turned the Ukrainian peninsula into zone of oppressions, intimidations and persecutions, massive violations of fundamental rights and freedoms" for last two years.
Against this background, reproaches to the Mejlis with carrying out of extremist activity looks especially cynical, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers.
Let us recall, the Russian prosecutor of Crimea Natalia Poklonska signed a resolution about the suspension of Mejlis activity of the Crimean Tatar people in Crimea.
