Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed categorical protest against the illegal actions of the Russian Federation in relation to the citizens of Ukraine, who are illegally held on the territory of the Russian Federation and in occupied Ukrainian lands. A statement published on the website of the department.
"Despite many persistent calls of the Ukrainian side and the international community, despite its international obligations, the Russian government and its occupation authorities continue to hold at least 29 Ukrainian citizens, illegally detained; dozens of Ukrainian citizens are persecuted in occupied Crimea, 16 citizens of Ukraine are considered missing, 115 are hostages in Donbass", — it is said in a statement.
Ukrainian diplomats are forced to note that the capture, prosecution and torture of Ukrainian citizens have become a common practice for Moscow.
"Cases of Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Ilmi Umerov, Ahtem Chiygoz and many other are eloquent proof of the fact that the Russian Federation returns to political repressions and the judgment as in Stalinism time... The latest decision of the Russian occupation authorities to reject complaints of the defense in the case of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov, the same as his previous detention in a psychiatric hospital are vivid illustrations of such inhuman policy", — the Foreign ministry states.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the international community to use all kinnds of possible legal and political pressure on Russia to stop its totalitarian methods of suppression of human rights and freedom of speech, as well as the release of all political prisoners and detained Ukrainian hostages.
