Zeitullayev’s lawyer Emil Kurbedinov is convinced that the prosecutor’s appeal against the sentence to the Crimean Tatar is connected with the Russian special services’ lobby. He said this in a comment for QirimInfo.
Yesterday, on May 16, it was reported that the public prosecutor’s office sent a notice of appeal against the sentence to Ruslan Zeitullayev and requested that his term of imprisonment should be extended till 17 years. This was reported by Radio Liberty.
«This is outrageous, of course. We think it’s not the public prosecutor’s office that should be blamed for this, but rather the special services which handled this case. They totally lost the case in court for the first time, when everyone got minimal sentences, Ruslan’s charges were re-qualified under Part 2 instead of 1 and he was sentenced to 7 years in jail in the end. We are sure that, starting from that moment, the Russian special services, in particular, the FSB, involved their lobby and enforced the reconsideration of this case through the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation», – Kurbedinov told.
The lawyer believes that the representatives of the Russian judicial system realize the groundlessness of the accusation, but are forced to take the decisions for the benefit of the FSB.
On May 15, defendant in the Sevastopol «Hizb ut-Tahrir case» Ruslan Zeitullayev announced another indefinite hunger-strike.
On April 26 , the North-Caucasian district military court sentenced Ruslan Zeitullayev to 12 years of imprisonment in a reinforced-security colony.
