Poroshenko called for strengthening sanctions against Russia in response to provocations in Crimea

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted the need to send the OSCE mission to the territory of Crimea.

After a telephone conversation with European Council President Donald Tusk Poroshenko stressed on expanding field of activities of the OSCE mission, including in Crimea, and the deployment of armed OSCE police mission in Donbass. It is reported by the press service of the head of state.

President of Ukraine stressed the importance of a resolute EU response to Russian provocations and an artificial whipping up of tensions.

"After the recent events in Crimea there should be no illusions about the intentions of the Russian Federation and strengthening of sanctions – as it is an effective mechanism of influence", – Poroshenko said.

European Council President gave a high assessment to the actions of Petro Poroshenko and balanced position of the Ukrainian side, which does not respond to the treacherous provocations of Russia in Crimea.

In turn, Donald Tusk reiterated principled position to keep the European Union's sanctions and assured in unquestioning support of Ukraine with of the EU.

"We firmly remain on the position of support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine", – the head of the European Council stressed.

Let’s remind, the head of the Council of Europe called the Russian version of provocations in Crimea improbable.
