May 16. In occupied Crimea, the Russian authorities refuse regional mejlises to conduct mourning event of the anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatars on May 18th. Also, the first deputy of the Mejlis Nariman Dzhelialov reported that "authorities" insist on carrying out joint actions.
May 17. Public prosecutor's office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea conducts pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings on genocide of Crimean Tatar people and other ethnic groups from the former territory of Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1944.
Material of the case are entered in Unified Register of pre-trial investigations on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part. 1, Art. 442 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (genocide).
May 18. On the eve of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of Crimean Tatar genocide the letters were sent to educational establishments, where principals were obliged to send by e-mail "data on the number and reasons of students’ absence" on Wednesday, May 18th.
May 18. In occupied Bakhchisaray local residents gathered at 12 p.m. near a memorial plaque to victims of the deportation of 1944 to commemorate the tragedy of Crimean Tatar people.
People said their prayers, minute's silence was held, and then all automobilists signaled for several minutes in solidarity. Among the participants were people of all ages, the witnesses of deportation, the youth, middle-aged people, mothers with children. All the time Russian police officers controlled the event.
May 18. According to the participant of the rally, yesterday, on the 18th of May, after prayers and minute of sorrow for the victims of deportation, convoy of 20 cars drove from Simferopol to Bakhchisaray. In Bakhchisaray the convoy was stopped by the police. Drivers were taken up licenses, and all participants were recorded on camera. Three of the participants were taken to the station, and nobody explained why.
Also in Sudak a group of young Crimean Tatars in cars with Crimean Tatars symbols was detained.
May 19. The Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was changed to the status of the accused. The resolution says that Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Ilmi Umer publicly called for the violation of territorial integrity of Russian Federation.
Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis, the former head of the DGA of Bakhchisaray Ilmi Umerov was released on his own recognizance.
May 20. According to the occupation court, Ahtem Chiygoz can «escape from investigation or put pressure on witnesses».
The Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz was detained in January 2015, "on suspicion of organizing and participating in mass disorders" on February 26th, 2016.
