The year of 2019 in the occupied Crimea began with the initiation of criminal cases against the Crimean Tatars, allegedly for participation in armed groups on the territory of mainland Ukraine (at least 3 criminal cases were initiated). Another Crimean Tatar Fevzi Saganji was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison on the same charge. The de facto Supreme Court of Crimea issued convictions in respect of defendants in the so-called Tablighi Jamaat case. The pressure on the lawyer Emil Kurbedinov continues: The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation demands to exclude him from the attorney’s collegium, which could later lead to the deprivation of his lawyer’s status.
