Overview of the situation in Crimea. August 2018
A serious concern raised by increased pressure that is expressed on human rights activists and lawyers by different means up to launch of criminal prosecution. Such practices as torture and inhuman treatment by the occupation authorities with intent of obtaining confessions are more and more massively recorded, as well as ethnic discrimination against Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians on different levels (blocking of education in national languages, pressure on national media and cultural initiatives, searches, and detentions). The administrative border with the Crimea becomes a potentially dangerous place for Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian Crimeans, as Russian special services carry out illegal detentions and pressure on these categories of people on crossing-points.
