Overview of the situation in Crimea. December 2018
In December 2018, five politically motivated sentences totaling 58 years of imprisonment were passed on Crimean residents. The Crimean Tatar activist Edem Bekirov was arrested at the administrative border between Crimea and the Ukrainian mainland, and was charged with a criminal offence. Moreover, the FSS (Russian Federal Security Service) officials have been imposing pressure on the Ukrainian sailors who had earlier been captured in the Kerch strait, in order to obtain their confession evidence. Besides, three Crimean residents have been prosecuted for their refusal to perform military service in the Russian Armed forces.
