Verkhovna Rada has passed bill #2166 that introduces a number of important changes to the main law about rights and freedoms of internally displaced persons. 243 MPs voted for the bill.
In particular, the new laws simplifies the process of keeping records about IDPs’ status and reinforces the protection of their rights. For example, now IDP certificate will be permanent. The bill also changes the main law about IDPs’ rights so that it satisfies the international standards.
The bill was developed by a number of MPs from Human rights committee as well as human rights activists and civil organizations.
