Kyiv Raion Court of Simferopol has decided to detain Refat Chubarov, Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, for two months as a pretrial restriction, wrote Chubarov himself on Facebook. He is being charged with public calls for actions aimed at violating territorial integrity of Russia. The court made the decision in his absence on October 6 and he says he was not notified about the scheduled court session.
“It is unnecessary to say that I was not notified either about the date and place of court session or the nature of the charges. And no one gave me a chance to familiarize myself with the materials of the investigation,” Chubarov wrote.
Head of the Mejlis called upon Ukrainian law enforcers to open criminal cases against investigators, judges and prosecutors conducting this case in Russia and said he was planning to forward the documents to the European Court of Human Rights.
