Ex-employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, who defected to occupants, told new details of annexation of Crimea

April 25. A former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Volodymyr Mertsalov told about taking airport in Simferopol, military unit in Feodosia, and how he had to «play the fool», explaining the presence of Russian troops on the peninsula. Thus, according to Mertsalov, he led so-called "rebels" while taking the airport in Simferopol.

Mejlis banned in occupied Crimea

April 26. "The Supreme Court of Crimea" recognized the Mejlis as an extremist organization and banned its activities in the occupied Crimea. The panel of judges, headed by Natalia Terentyeva, delivered judgement at the suit of "prosecutor" of Crimea Natalia Poklonska.

Mejlis switches to emergency mode, — Chubarov

April 26.  The desicion to switch to emergency mode was made after the "the Supreme Court of Crimea" has banned the Mejlis. Since the beginning of the emergency mode the activities of the Mejlis will be held in Kyiv, where the head office will be located. Till now, their officiall whereabouts was in Simferopol.

Recurrent search of Crimean Tatars houses in Crimea

April 27. The search was conducted in the house of Muedin Alivapov, who was arrested on the suspicion of arson of cars in January. 

The head of Kurultai CEC Zaire Smedlyaev writes: "During the search Muedin’s clothing and footwear were confiscated. Apparently, while he is sitting in jail, his belongings committed arsons of cars. Everything is possible in the current reality. As Akhtem Chiygoz is also under arrest, and he continues to communicate with Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov, nobody has canceled teleportation and telekinesis yet”.

Crimea appeared at the end of media freedom rankings

April 27. According to Freedom House Report, the situation of media freedom in the annexed peninsula worse, than in Belarus and Iran.

International human rights organization Freedom House has assessed the situation of media freedom in 199 countries and territories in 2015, evaluating each of them on a scale from 0 to 100. Depending on the number, the status of "free", "partly free" or "absolutely free" areas for the media is determined.

One of the worst countries and territories in the context of media freedom are Belarus — 192d position, Crimea, annexed by Russia, — 195th, and also Iran — 190th, the organization reports.

UN Security Council discussed the situation in occupied Crimea

April 29.  Briefing was held on the initiative of Ukraine, in connection with escalation of violence in the occupied territories, and with prohibition of Mejlis.

At the briefing, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chief of Staff in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko noted, that at least 11 Ukrainians were held as political prisoners in the Russian Federation, including parliamentarians and native Crimeans. Prystaiko also said, that after the annexation of Crimea 9 Crimean Tatars  missing, 20 were kidnapped, against 130 criminal cases are opened.

US Representative Samantha Power added, that since the occupation of Crimea by Russia, Russian authorities equate all the actions of the Crimean Tatar community to crime. She said, that US sanctions against Russia will stay in force as long as the peninsula is occupied.

Crimean journalist Semena was changed to the status of accused

April 29. According to the Semena’s lawyer Emile Kurbedinov, the journalist was informed about it while the interrogation in FSB.

Emil Kurbedinov also said, that investigators appointed a linguistic expertise.

"We got a decree about appointed linguistic expertise. However, there was stated that the Federal Security Service governance expert in Crimea would expertise it. Neither first name, nor last name were not mentioned. We paid investigator’s attention on it, and demanded it in writing, so that we knew the first and the last name of the person who they would transferr it to", – the lawyer said.
