Defendant in the «diversionists case» Andrii Zakhtei was deprived of the Russian citizenship. A source closely familiar with the situation informed this to QirimInfo. According to them, it is linked with the new charges set against Zakhtei. As QirimInfo reported earlier, they planned to give notice of formal charges with storaging weapons and forgery of documents [the Russian passport], filed against the defendant in the «diversionists case».
Important to note, early in March, Meduza informed with a reference to lawyer Oleksandr Popkov that Zakhtei had filed a corresponding application to the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation in the Crimea.
«Charges with having committed an extremely severe crime have been fabricated against me, I am deeply disappointed in the law-enforcement and judicial systems of the Russian Federation <…> and due to the above I no longer want to be a citizen of this country», — it was said in Zakhtei’s application.
Zakhtei also has the Ukrainian citizenship.
It is noteworthy that the Law «On Citizenship of the Russian Federation» does not allow defendants in criminal cases give up citizenship.
QirimInfo informed before that Zakhtei signed a pre-trial settlement with the investigation. One of the conditions for signing thereof by the investigators was the refusal to involve lawyers under contract. Lawyers Oleksii Ladin and Oleksandr Popkov confirmed the information on making the pre-trial settlement.
